Dog Bite Injury Claims — Massachusetts

Animal attacks, including dog bites, can be very traumatizing. When a young child or an adult is attacked by a dog, the very violence of it can cause the person to have a lifelong fear of animals. Dog bite injuries can include scarring and broken bones, and in some cases, a dog attack can result in a wrongful death.

Massachusetts law is clear, the dog’s owner or keeper is liable for the personal injuries that a person sustains as a result of a dog bite. F. Robert Allison, Attorney at Law, has more than twenty years of experience successfully representing injured clients, including those injured by animal attacks.

Take the following action if you or a family member were attacked by a dog:

  • Call emergency medical professionals
  • Seek treatment for injuries
  • Get tests to determine if you need a rabies shot
  • Get the name and address of the dog’s owner or keeper
  • Get photographs of injuries, and of the place of attack
  • Get the name and address of any witnesses

Massachusetts law requires that a dog owner register, number, describe and license his or her dog. This information is kept in the city or town’s clerk's office. All dogs must be vaccinated and issued a tag that proves the dog’s vaccination. Dog owners are liable for injuries caused to your body or to your property. You do not need to prove negligence.

If there was already a legal order to restrain the dog when the dog attacked, you may be entitled to triple the amount of damages that you sustained.
